What camera/lenses/flash do you use?

I currently shoot with a Canon 6D. (I’m saving up for a 5D Mark III… if only I could get my hands on that dreamy Mark IV) I primarily shoot with my Sigma ART 35mm f/1.4 and Sigma ART 50mm f/1.4.  I also use my Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro lens from time to time.  One day soon I will snag the Sigma ART 135mm f/1.8.  I typically do not use flash for my outdoor work.  For indoor sessions, I may use my Canon Speedlite.  Most of my newborn work is shot with my AlienBee 400 and 86″ PLM.

 

What areas do you service?

I service all of South Jersey, South-Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, & Northern Maryland.  All sessions include travel costs up to 25 miles from 08066.  There are additional fees for any distance further than 25 miles from 08066.

 

How long does it take to receive our images?

Typically your proofing gallery will be available to you within 7-10 days from your session.  Your final images are ready between 14-21 days after your session.

 

Where do our sessions take place?

All newborn sessions take place in your home (for now!! hehe).  All other sessions take place outdoors.  I have a bunch of recommendations for locations based on your style (urban, park, beach, etc).

 

What time is our session scheduled? How long is a session?

Newborn sessions typically take place mid-late morning.  These sessions are typically 2-3  hours long.  Outdoor sessions take place approximately 1 1/2 hours before sunset.  The more tree coverage, the earlier we will schedule.  The less coverage, we will start a little later.  I will start no later than 1 hour prior to sunset.  Family/maternity/child sessions are typically 45-60 minutes long.

What happens if we get rained out?

I keep a number of backup dates open each month in the event of bad weather.  There is no fee for rescheduling due to inclement weather.  Overcast is not typically considered inclement weather.  I sometimes get the best images on an overcast day!  I will wait until the morning of the session before deciding if a reschedule is warranted.

 

How do I get my kids to cooperate?

The short answer is you DON’T!  What? Am I crazy?  Nope!  I don’t want your children thinking this is a chore.  Please, don’t tell them to listen to me!  The more easy going and stress-free you walk into the session, the better your images will be – I promise.  Don’t tell your kids to smile, don’t tell them to calm down, don’t tell them they will be punished if they don’t cooperate.  If that is who they are, I want to capture them that way.  I’ll take care of getting real smiles.  How?  By playing games, being silly and engaging them.  Every moment will not be perfect, but it will be perfectly imperfect.

Contact me by e-mailing Erin@ErinLaytonPhotography.  I’ll ask all the necessary questions to ensure the perfect session.  You will then be required to sign a contract and I will collect a $100 non-refundable retainer fee to secure your session date/time.  The remainder is due no later than the start of the session.
