Congratulations on your new arrival! I am thrilled to be a part of capturing these precious moments with your newborn. To ensure your in-studio posed/lifestyle newborn session goes smoothly and results in beautiful, timeless photos, I've put together some tips to help you prepare.
1. Timing is Everything
Newborns are best photographed within the first 5-14 days of life. During this time, they are sleepier and more likely to curl up into those adorable poses. If you haven't already, please schedule your session as soon as possible to secure your preferred date.
2. Feeding and Sleep
A well-fed baby is a happy baby! Plan to feed your newborn just before you leave for the studio or as soon as you arrive. A full tummy will help your baby stay content and sleepy during the session. If you're breastfeeding, try to avoid foods that might upset your baby's tummy 24 hours prior to the session.
3. Clothing and Accessories
For Your Newborn:
Dress your baby in loose-fitting clothes to avoid any marks on their skin. A simple onesie that zips or snaps is ideal.
Bring a few favorite blankets or swaddles, especially if they hold sentimental value.
Feel free to bring any special props or heirlooms you’d like included in the photos.
For Parents and Siblings:
Choose neutral, solid colors without bold patterns. Soft, muted tones like creams, pastels, and earthy shades photograph beautifully.
Keep accessories minimal to keep the focus on your baby.
Ensure everyone is well-rested and has eaten before the session.
Client Closet: I have a selection of beautiful dresses for moms, adorable newborn outfits, and clothing for children up to size 5T. This client closet is available for you to use, so you don't need to stress about finding the perfect outfits. For dads, I have some shirts available, but we recommend bringing a few outfit options that coordinate with the rest of the family for the best results.
4. What to Expect at the Studio
When you arrive, the studio will be warm and cozy to keep your baby comfortable. I will have a variety of props, blankets, and backdrops available. However, we always welcome any personal items you'd like to include.
5. Safety First
Your baby’s safety is my top priority. I take every precaution to ensure they are secure and comfortable during the session. Some poses might require a bit of patience and gentle handling. Rest assured, I will never force your baby into a pose they are not comfortable with.
6. Relax and Enjoy
A relaxed parent helps create a relaxed baby. I understand that newborn sessions can be unpredictable, and I schedule ample time to allow for feeding, soothing, and changing breaks. Don’t stress if your baby needs extra time to settle; I am here to capture your little one’s unique personality in a calm and soothing environment.
7. After the Session
Once your session is complete, I will carefully select and edit the best images, providing you with a beautiful gallery of photos to cherish forever. Your gallery will be ready with in 2-3 weeks.
8. Additional Tips
Bring extra diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes for both you and the baby.
Consider bringing a pacifier, even if your baby doesn’t normally use one, as it can help soothe them during the session.
If you have older children, consider bringing a favorite toy or snack to keep them entertained, or additional person to help when they are not in the pictures.
